Just like Pag, another island closer to Zadar is connected to the mainland by a bridge, the island of Vir. The most significant day in the history of the island, which is celebrated even today, is the August 13 in memory of 1908 when 89 Vir families of the time bought their island from the owner, lessees from Venice. Vir has been for dozens of years dedicated to specific tourism as an area for building summerhouses for people from various parts of Croatia, and also Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and today from many European countries. Besides the numerous apartments that have been built here, the locals have made a step ahead in tourism with natural beaches in the unconstructed parts of the island and have arranged their old nucleus.
