Fun Events in The Zadar Region – May & June

Over the next couple of months, we have a large number of events and festivals happening in the Zadar Region. Here’s a taste of what’s ahead:

10th International Choir Competition – 19th – 22nd May

On the 19th of May, the 10th Zadar International Choir Competition will commence where 20 choir groups will compete for the title across three categories, men’s, women’s and mixed choirs. The event runs for four days with the competition being opened with a free concert from Antiphonus Ensemble in St Anastasia’s Cathedral at 9 pm, followed by the main competition being held in the Croatian National Theatre in Zadar over the course of the following days.

Day of Herbs, Dugi Otok – 21st – 28th May

Dugi Otok, an island in the Zadar Achileplo is proud to welcome visitors where they will reveal the secrets of Dugi Otok – by the way of herbs!  Kicking off on the 21syt of May until the 28th the Days of Herbs is a fabulous opportunity to learn about Dugi Otok – the long island with it’s and nature park in more detail.

This seven-day programme offers something to please everyone. From professionally guided tours, excursions and workshops. No matter whether you’re interested in medicinal herbs, culinary experiences, cultural heritage, or simply want to enjoy sunny spring days on the island head over to the Island.

Gastro Table, Biograd – 3rd – 5th June

The Biograd Gastro Table is a festival of local food, drink, gastro delicacies, original souvenirs and folkloric dance.

This event connects continental and coastal Croatia in Biograd for a weekend where artisans present their products for all to try. It’s a great way to get a taste everything Croatia has to offer in one place, the charming city of Biograd.

Falkensteiner Punta Skala Triathlon – 4th – 5th June

For all you, fitness fanatics why not take part in one of the race events being held at the picturesque Falkensteiner Punta Skala Triathlon?  There are four disciplines in which you can compete, including:

  • Medium long triathlon which is a 1.9km swim, 90km cycle and 21.1 km run
  • Aquathlon which is a 200m-800m swim
  • Supersprint Triathlon which is a 2oom swim, 7km cycle and 1.8km run
  • 5km / 10km run

There are numerous subcategories within each discipline for different age groups and sexes making the events highly competitive. You will need to register before the 24th of May –  if you register earlier the fee is discounted. Traditional Karl May Fest, Starigrad Paklenica – 4th – 11th June

All you Winnetou lovers should make you way to Starigrad Paklenica for the annual get together which celebrates the legendary western movies about Indian chief Winnetou, made in Croatia inspired by the series of German writer Karl May.

You’ll have the opportunity to visit the shooting locations to witness the beautiful natural landscapes, meet some of the actors and other members of the film crew, as well as to watch the movies out in the open with people who appreciate the movies as much as you do.

7th International Festival of Lace, Pag – 17th – 19th June

This annual celebration of the long-standing Pag tradition of lace making really is a unique experience. You get to see how the intricate skill of lace making is undertaken and appreciate the painstaking hours of work that go into each piece. The event will take place in Pag town and features lace makers from across Europe.

Velebit Ultra Trail – 24th-26th June

This is a unique event for all you trail runners through the stunning Velebit mountains taking you through the Paklenica National Park and Velebit Nature Park. The event has five categories designed for the experienced trail runners through to the novices. They include:

  • Velebit Epic Ultra Trail – 126km
  • Velebit 50mile Ultra Trail – 82km
  • Velebit Trail Marathon – 42km
  • Velebit Challenger Trail – 30km
  • Velebit Light Trail – 15km
