The Best of Biograd
The weather has warmed up making the Adriatic more and more inviting. So where to go? What about Biograd Na Moru the southernmost coastal settlement in the Zadar Region? It has its own unique charm and offers a vast array of culinary, cultural, and natural treasures. Here’s a snapshot of what’s on offer in Biograd:
Biograd has a number of crystal clear beaches all within the city limits making access to them super easy. The best of them being Bošana, Dražica, and Soline Beaches. For those of you prepared to travel a little further try Crvena Luka beach which is 3km from the city. This beach is a sandy cove, very picturesque well worth the short trip.
A short drive from Biograd you have Croatia’s largest natural lake, Vrana Lake. Vrana is a designated nature park, and it is quite an interesting natural phenomenon in that the lake is located beside the Adriatic making for two bodies of water sitting side by side.
Kamenjak hill is where you’ll get the best views of Vrana and the alluring Adriatic. Vrana is more than just stunning views; it received its nature park status due to it being an intact natural habitat for water birds, its natural water springs, and overall biodiversity. The perfect place for nature lovers to spend the day wandering.
Vrana is more than just stunning views; it received nature park status in 1999 due to it being an intact natural habitat for water birds, its natural water springs, and overall biodiversity. The perfect place for nature lovers to spend the day wandering or if you love bird watching, head for the designated ornithological reserve within the park to see all those unique birds. It’s easy to find – look for the enormous reed patch on the lake.
Looking for a bit of action while on holidays? Well, you will find Biograd has you covered. If you want to explore the area on two wheels, there is a network of cycle trails to suit all levels of experience. We particularly love the 38km trail which takes you around Vrana Lake. Sailing is an absolute must from Biograd with this section of the Croatian coastline being the most indented and the highest concentration of islands. You have to agree life doesn’t get much better than sailing the Dalmatian coast. Right? You can also get up to many other activities including, jet skiing, tennis, diving, and the list goes on and on.
Throughout summer, the city of Biograd holds a string of activities including musical, dance and theatrical performances which forms part of its Biograd Cultural Summer festivities. There is something on every day for your entertainment and for you to experience incredible Croatian cultural performances.
One big event each year which we are always excited about is the Biograd Gastro Table – a festival of local food, drink, gastro delicacies, original souvenirs and folkloric dance. This event connects continental and coastal Croatia in Biograd for a weekend where artisans present their products for all to try. It’s a great way to get a taste everything Croatia has to offer in one place.
